Keelings Under Fire For Flying In Fruit Pickers From Abroad
17 April 2020 - 15 minsKeelings has come under fire for flying in fruit pickers from Bulgaria during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Almost 190 workers arrived in Dublin yesterday on a Ryanair flight chartered by Keelings. The company explained that they need 900 seasonal workers, but only received 40 Irish applications.
It added that all workers were screened by a doctor prior to leaving Bulgaria, and their movements will be restricted for 14 days in accordance with HSE guidelines.
But is it unsafe to have overseas workers arriving now?
Peadar Tóibín, Aontú TD for Meath West, and Tom Doorley, food and wine writer for the Irish Daily Mail and Irish Mail on Sunday, joined us to discuss this.
