New opt-out organ donation system comes into effect
17 June 2025 - 8 minsFrom today, when a person dies, they will automatically be assumed to be an organ donor unless they have indicated an objection during their lifetime.
It is hoped that this new opt-out system will reduce waiting lists and encourage more people to become organ donors.
