“MOTHMAN STORIES YOU MAY NEVER HAVE HEARD” #WeirdDarkness #Darkives
24 July 2024 - 1 hour 47 minsIN THIS EPISODE: Bad omens – to most it’s just as silly to believe them as to believe in flying monsters or that a solar eclipse will bring about the end of life as we know it. But when looking at the correlations between odd or strange events, and the Mothman, you might begin to wonder if bad omens may be real after all. Which just might also give you a bit of a hesitation and a few goosebumps when you experience the next solar eclipse.

CHRONICLES OF THE BLACK DEATH: Pus, Pee, and Plague Doctors – Medieval Medicine’s Worst Moments
#WeirdDarknessRadio WEEK OF JUNE 15, 2025: During the Black Death, medieval Europeans bathed in vinegar, slept on rotting straw, dumped waste in the streets — and still couldn’t figure out why everyone was dying. ========== HOUR ONE: During the bubonic plague in the early Middle-Ages, those who became sick and were even suspected of having the plague, were forced to relocate to a quarantined island – Poveglia Island. The gruesomeness that took place there still continues today, with the island being illegal to visit – and reportedly, very haunted. (Inside Black Plague Island) *** We look at some of the bathing – and lack thereof – that took place during the bubonic plague, as well as some of the beliefs they had about diet and how it might protect from contagion. Some of the ideas of what people thought could protect them from the disease are nothing short of shocking. (Living With The Black Death) ========== HOUR TWO: About 80 years after the black plague began, a different plague came upon England – a fatal one that would cause you to almost instantly perspire to death. (Death By Sweat) *** Most everyone is familiar with the plague in Europe in the early 1400s – but in the early 1900s it struck again. This time in San Francisco. If you’ve not heard that before, it could be because the U.S. government tried to cover it up. (The Plague of San Francisco) *** Of all the imagery that comes to mind when hearing the words “bubonic plague” the most prevalent is most certainly that of the doctors – and the odd, bird-like masks they would wear. Why they dressed that way is interesting – but what the doctors did while wearing those suits and in their labs as they tried to battle the illness is absolutely horrifying. (Plague Doctors) *** And it probably comes as no surprise that something so deadly and horrific as the black plague would leave behind some residual paranormal energy – and boy is there a lot of it. (A Plague of Ghosts) ========== SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: We look at some of the bathing – and lack thereof – that took place during the bubonic plague, as well as some of the beliefs they had about diet and how it might protect from contagion. Some of the ideas of what people thought could protect them from the disease are nothing short of shocking. (Living With The Black Death – CONTINUED) *** Europe just could not escape plagues of any kind – for example, the plague that made you, against your will, keep dancing until you dropped dead. (The Flight 191 Disaster) *** In 1966, Richard Speck committed a crime so horrific it gave birth to the term "random mass murder" and changed America forever. His brutal slaying of eight nursing students in Chicago shocked the nation. His time in prison, depraved. Are these submerged realms hiding the true secrets of alien life on Earth? (Extraterrestrials In The Abyss) *** In 1969, a strange man's disturbing "joke" about strangling a woman led to the unraveling of a horrific series of murders. Jerome "Jerry" Brudos, known as the "Shoe Fetish Killer," had been living a double life - family man by day, brutal serial killer by night. Somehow, his childhood obsession with women's shoes spiraled into a murderous rampage that shocked the public and ended only when a secret workshop revealed its grisly contents. (The Shoe Fetish Killer) *** In the heart of New Orleans' Garden District stands Buckner Mansion, a breathtaking testament to antebellum opulence and a magnet for ghost hunters and history buffs alike. Built to outshine its rivals, this Greek Revival masterpiece has witnessed over 150 years of triumphs, tragedies, and unexplained phenomena. From its days as a slaveholder's showpiece to its starring role in TV’s "American Horror Story," Buckner Mansion continues to captivate visitors with its grandeur and the persistent whispers of its spectral inhabitants. (White Columns, Dark Secrets: The Buckner Mansion) *** In the 6th century AD, a terrifying sea monster known as Porphyrios emerged from the depths to wreak havoc on Byzantine ships, challenging even Emperor Justinian's mighty fleet. This legendary whale, whether sperm whale or orca, became the stuff of nightmares for sailors and the subject of heated debate among historians for centuries. (The Bosphorus Beast Porphyrios) *** The enigmatic Nazca lines have puzzled archaeologists and enthusiasts for decades, with some claiming they're ancient runways for extraterrestrial visitors or evidence of advanced human flight.
