This time it's Troy from 2004 from director Wolfgang Peterson. Loosely based on Homer's Iliad and the story of the Trojan War it pits (pun intended) Brad Pitt's Achilles against Eric Bana's Hector, Orlando Blooms Paris against Brendan Gleeson's Menelaus, a city of stupid people against a horse and a whole lot more. By way of Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is hitting cinemas in July, an epic fantasy action bonanza based on Homer's Odyssey. Its use of scale and practical effects harken back to the movies and stories he grew up on, including this one, Jason and the Argonauts from 1963. Featuring groundbreaking effects from stopmotion and dynomation wizard Ray Harryhausen, he considers it the pinnacle of his work, with the giant bronze statue Talos, the seven headed Hydra and of course the skeleton battle sequence.
