Galway, Hurling & the Great Buzz Debate
7 July - 6 minsAll-Ireland final fever is back, and Dave, Fionnuala and Producer Leah are plotting their next big outside broadcast - Galway, the Friday before the hurling final. Preferably a big hurling town like Loughrea, for maximum pre-match buzz.
But Dave isn’t convinced the craic is there for hurling the way it is for football, and that kicks off a full-on “superior sport” debate.
Is hurling too skilful to ever be as widespread? Has football’s new rules made it the better watch? And are we all just in it for the day out anyway?
All-Ireland Final Buzz with Joe Canning
All-Ireland final week is pure madness, and Joe Canning is in the thick of it - even while living in Limerick, married to a Limerick woman, and trying to dodge the endless “any tickets?” messages before the panic really kicks in Friday and Saturday. He chats about the real buzz in Galway since that semi-final win, what it’s like knowing nearly the whole panel, and the moments that still stand out from 2017 and that golden run of finals.

Name Your Baby After a Celebrity?
Dave (guilty as charged) falls for a clickbait headline about “thousands of Erling Haaland’s children in Peru” - and it spirals into a brilliant chat about the wildest baby-naming trend fuelled by football. Turns out Peru’s civil registry is packed with Haalands… but Neymar absolutely demolishes the numbers, with tens of thousands of namesakes, while “Lionel Messi” trails way behind. From there, it’s only right to ask: if you had to name your child after your favourite famous person, what are you calling them?

What Counts as ‘Risky Business’?
Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers wants Ireland’s civil servants to take “more risk” to get big projects moving - housing, energy, public transport and all the rest. Dave and Fionnuala try to figure out what that actually means… and what it definitely doesn’t. Because there’s “risk” like buying land before a project is fully approved — and then there’s real risky business: sitting down before checking for toilet paper, driving past the fuel warning, carrying three pints through a packed pub, or timing four dishes at once.

Welcome the Bread Barometer...
A French lad has gone viral for the one Irish thing he’d “die for”… and it’s not the Cliffs of Moher or Temple Bar. It’s a humble slice of white pan. Yes, really. Welcome to the Bread Barometer. Top three breads, top three brands, and plenty of controversy — from Brennan’s vs Irish Pride to sourdough, part-baked rolls, and even a rogue shout for Veda. And finally: does a scone count as bread?

Midas Fury : Does it deserve the hate?
Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury finally revealed their baby’s name - and it turned into a full-blown pop culture event, complete with a boxing ring “name reveal” and the internet doing what it does best: having Opinions. Was it clever branding, or were they just asking to be torn apart online?
