27-year-old mum of four Geila Ibram was murdered in 2023 while working as a sex-worker n Limerick. The violent attack was committed by Habib Shah Shamel who in recent weeks has been in court for terrorism related offences. The case itself has reignited the call among campaign groups for the decriminalisation of the sex trade in Ireland. But with only 15 convictions for those buying sex between 2017 and 2024 it raises questions around how the sex trade operates in this country. 41-year-old Paul Drew has been charged with the murder of Robbie Lawlor after he was arrested in Liverpool and returned to Belfast this week. Drew, with an address in Dublin, was previously jailed for heroin offences and is believed to be a close associate of the criminal known as Mr Big. During a brief hearing, a court heard that there is a Garda file with the Director of Public Prosecution in the Republic of Ireland in relation to the investigation and that 12 people questioned have yet to be charged. A killer driver caused a horror crash that resulted in the death of a mother-of-two, who worked as a carer, and life-changing injuries for her husband, who was in the passenger seat. Michael Connors, from Ballyfermot in Dublin, had only recently been released from prison and was speeding through a housing estate when he spotted a police car. After the crash, he fled the scene, leaving a third victim - his 16-year-old passenger - with horrific injuries. This week, he was jailed for 13 years in a Welsh courtroom.
