“THE REAL MUMMY’S CURSE” and More True Horror Stories! #WeirdDarkness

IN THIS EPISODE: Dracula, the Wolf Man, and Frankenstein’s creation… no list of monsters would be complete without our toilet-paper-covered friend, “The Mummy” and, of course, the curse that goes with it. But in real life, did the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb by Howard Carter in 1922 unleash a terrible curse? (The Mummy’s Curse) *** When driving towards the banks of the Chunky River in Mississippi, it’s best not to ignore the “Stuckey Bridge Closed” sign. In fact, you might want to avoid the bridge altogether if you are the least bit squeamish. (The Hanging Man at Stuckey’s Bridge) *** Feelings created by your living area. Can your home truly dictate the way you feel? (Feelings of Pain, Hatred and Anger Caused By My Apartment) *** In the early 1870s the counties of Labette and Montgomery in Kansas were experiencing an alarming number of missing persons. Could a local grocery owner and his family be to blame? (The Bloody Benders) *** The legend of Lavinia Fisher has been told and retold since her execution in Charleston, South Carolina in 1820 and with each telling it has grown more extravagant and further from the truth. (The Legend of Lavinia Fisher) *** Why are so many mysterious vanishings combined with some type of cloud, fog or mist? (Mysterious Mists And Strange Vanishings) *** Frank Lloyd Wright is regarded as one of the most brilliant minds in the history of American architecture. One of his creations was Taliesin, meant to be a hideaway for Wright and his mistress. But that beautiful home soon became a scene of utter horror – and it left behind a haunting. (Murder at Taliesin) *** A family buys a home to renovate and resell – but soon they come to realize why the previous owners might have been so eager to sell the house and get out. (The Shadow On My Sofa) *** A big smile is usually a joy-filled and even comforting sight – so why do so many terrifying encounters with evil include entities or villains with evil grins? (Smiling, Sinister and Supernatural) *** If you decide to visit the most haunted house in Philadelphia, whatever you do, avoid the "Death Chair." “THE CONSPIRACY OF STANLEY KUBRICK, ‘THE SHINING’, AND THE MOON LANDING” and more! #WeirdDarkness

IN THIS EPISODE: Does Stanley Kubrick's classic 1980 film The Shining contain a hidden code about the Apollo moon landings? (Under a Shining Moon) *** Poltergeists have been reported as having unique personalities. Some are violent, others are eerily playful. But in Vietnam, they are dealing with one that likes to start fires. (Pyromaniac Poltergeist) *** In 1885 a madman stalked the streets of Austin, Texas, slaughtering women where they slept. You might think he was inspired by London’s Jack the Ripper – but this was three years before anyone ever knew about Jack. (The Servant Girl Murders) *** Are ghosts and shadow people the same thing? Author Jacob Shelton doesn’t think so – and gives us an indepth essay behind his reasoning. (Ghosts And Shadows) *** In September, 1935, the Labor Day Hurricane obliterated the Florida Keys, killing hundreds. Even today, more than 83 years later, skeletal remains still continue to occasionally be found… as do some of their ghosts. (Ghosts Of The Labor Day Hurricane) *** Nathaniel Bar-Jonah was accused of murdering a child. Soon, his neighbors remembered the strange meat he'd given them years before. (Child Killer and Cannibal) *** Was the notorious Dr Crippen, convicted and executed in 1910 for the murder of his wife Cora, actually innocent? (Dr. Crippen and the Chamber of Murder and Horror) *** Two women decide to move into a flat together – but quickly find out they might have a paranormal third roommate they didn’t know about. (The Other Flatmate) *** In the wild frontier of the 1790s, Americans had much to be worried about. Drought, famine, being injured with no one there to get help for you, poisonous snakes, hungry wolves, even being scalped by bloodthirsty natives of the land. But nothing was so scary as… the Harpe brothers. You see, the Harpe brothers didn’t choose their victims – they simply killed anyone who got in their way, including women and children. WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 24-25, 2024 #WeirdDarknessRadio

HOUR ONE: Like many desolate places, the Arctic has its share of ghost stories and haunted legends floating around the frigid, wild areas of its domain. It might be the frights rather than the cold that gives you goosebumps. (Ghostly Shivers of the Arctic Circle) *** You never know what might be lurking just out of sight – in the shadows, behind a door. I’ll share a few true stories that might make you double-check the locks at night and check the closet before going to bed. (Never Trust The Dark) *** When you think of the Salem Witch Trials, you typically think of women being burned at the stake, innocently accused of witchcraft. There are two incorrect assumption about that mental picture. First, most of the accused were hung, and none have been truly verified to be burned alive. And second, sorcery and Satan worship were not seen to be bound by gender, and so either a man, woman, boy, or girl could be a witch. And one of those unfortunate men was Giles Corey – but his punishment went beyond the norm, and into the gruesome. (The Most Dreadful Execution of The Salem Witch Trials) ========== HOUR TWO: “The devil made me do it.” It’s an excuse that has been used so often by so many that it has lost its meaning, and its effectiveness. So only a fool or a madman would commit a horrible act and then try to blame it on the devil or a demon… unless, of course, that person truly believes that is exactly what happened to them. (A Demon Made Me Do It) *** The little Norwegian village of Bærum Verk still stands as an old foundry settlement, and is an active place, both as a place to work, and as a place to live – and as a place to keep living even after you’re dead. (The Most Haunted Village in Norway) *** There are more than a few stories from upright citizens around the world who claim to have seen tiny humans. I’m not talking about the diminutive human beings we used to classify as dwarves or midgets until we became more enlightened. I’m talking about short, maybe two-foot tall, perfectly proportioned people. (Big Stories About Little People) ========== SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: When John and Eva were married they told their relatives that they planned to honeymoon on the Atlantic coast, but John had another plan, and it would not be his last deception. But it would be the first act in what ended up being a mystery that has still gone unsolved to this day. (The Lawrenceburg Shanty-Boat Mystery) *** Weirdo family member James Pierce brings a true story that he calls, “It Came Through the Screen Door”. *** A 5-year-old boy having the time of his life at a carnival suddenly goes missing – and when found later there is no evidence whatsoever as to how he got where he was, who took him there, or what happened to him before he was found. (The Disturbing Case of Little Stephen McKerron) *** Weirdo family member Joy Cruz remembers something her mother told her as a child… and it quite possibly saved her soul. “HIGHGATE VAMPIRE: HORROR OF THE DEAD” and 9 More Terrifying True Stories! #WeirdDarkness

IN THIS EPISODE: Did a vampire stalk London’s Highgate cemetery in the 1970s? (Highgate Vampire: The Horror of the Dead) *** He was alone at home when firemen were called. The entire house was blazing... except for one room. The room that contained the corpse of J. Temple Thurston. (The Mysterious Death of J. Temple Thurston) *** A ghostly spirit brings comfort to a dying man’s grandchild. (A Comforting Nurse) *** Death comes to us all, but today children are shielded from the reality of death – only the stylized version they see in television and film. But years ago, when there was a death, it was a family affair – everyone of all ages participated in the funeral and grieving process. And some people coped with their grief by being artistic – such as writing a weird song called “The Hearse Song”. *** We all know people who love nature and the outdoors. Some will even have their own gardens and will talk to the flowers and plants, thinking it will help them thrive. But how would you react when you are sure the plants are talking back to you? (The Girl Who Talks To Trees) *** Mitchell Quy watched while the police looked for his missing wife; he even joined the search himself. No one ever expected that Mitchell was the one who had killed her. (He Murdered His Wife – Then Pretended To Look For Her) *** In 1986, the Tallmanns moved into what they thought was the ideal family home. They couldn’t have been more wrong. (Sharing Bunk Beds With Evil) *** A Weirdo family member shares how he has been stalked by a terrifying entity for many years. (The Sinister Caprine Creature) *** Not even the serial killer Dennis Nilsen himself can say exactly how many people he murdered. There were just too many. (Britain’s Kindly Killer) *** How is it possible for a man as powerful and prominent as a Supreme Court judge to disappear forever? It happened to the Big Apple’s Justice Joseph F. Crater. “THE LEAPING TERROR OF LONDON” and More Disturbing True Stories! #WeirdDarkness

IN THIS EPISODE: Was the legendary Spring Heeled Jack an Irish nobleman? (The Terror of London) *** During the early morning hours of August 11, 1887, a terrible train crash occurred near the small town of Chatsworth, Illinois -- and left ghostly legends in its wake. (Hauntings of Illinois’ Worst Train Disaster) *** It was a beautiful old home – a Queen Anne Victorian, with gingerbread-like shingles and trim all the way around, painted beige. One look, and you knew joy-filled years were lived in that home. But you know what they say… don’t judge a book by its cover. (Noises and Unexplained Happenings) *** Seventeen years after he disappeared, has a man’s killer been brought to justice? (The Strange Case of Zebb Quinn’s Disappearance) *** A man shares his belief that he is being stalked – by something paranormal. (The Gray Lady) *** One of our Weirdo family members shares how the strange Elisa Lam case creeped into a terrifying case of sleep paralysis. (Terror From The Elisa Lam Case) *** The Bermuda Triangle is not the only vortex of missing ships, and half a world away, in a whole other ocean, there lies a counterpart in the waters near Japan, which by all accounts is just as strange as its Bermuda cousin. (The Devil’s Sea) *** A man who has had no issues before is suddenly finding the energy in his house is out of whack. (Something Is Messing With The Energy In My House) *** With all the men of the house gone fishing, an axe murder chooses the perfect time to attack and kill the women inside.
