Sanctuary Runners Appeal To Cork Residents To Open Their Doors For Marathon

18 February 2020 - 6 mins
Podcast Series The Last Word with Matt Cooper

The Sanctuary Runners is an initiative which enables asylum seekers and refugees in Direct Provision to run, jog and walk alongside Irish people, fostering friendship, positivity and respect.

The group has 1,600 runners across 19 locations in Ireland. They are taking part in the Cork City Marathon, and are also appealing to Cork residents to open their doors and put up runners the night before the run.

Graham Clifford, founder of the Sanctuary Runners, and Bousie Mhlope, a member of the Sanctuary Runners who lives in Kinsale Direct Provision Centre, joined us to explain more about the idea.
