NUI Galway are working on a fun experiment to help us understand the importance of evidence

OK, so hands up if you are tired of reading fake news online...

The internet is a phenomenal resource but is plagued with false information.

Whether it's products claiming to be "clinically proven" or common misconceptions like eggs are bad for your heart/cheese gives you nightmares etc., it's hard to filter out what is factual.

Well fear not fellow truth-seekers, the clever folk at NUIG have created an experiment they hope will help the public learn about randomised trials, to understand why they matter and to be better equipped to think critically about health claims.

It will also help research...

Mairead Defends Working Mums Being Criticised For Leaving Kids In Creche

Mairead Defends Working Mums Being Criticised For Leaving Kids In Creche

"I know so many women that don't want to work but have to" Today FM's new Lunchtime presenter Mairead Ronan was in the hot seat for this week's #AskMeAnything on Dermot and Dave. Listeners wanted to know things like, "How did you get into radio?", "Why did you leave Today FM?" and "Would you ever do a celebrity-style reality show again?". Ronan answered everything that was thrown at her and revealed why Sunday Independent journalist Niamh Horan's stance on working mum drives her insane: Mairead also stands up for working Mams who have been criticised for leaving their kids in creche. Also, the answer to this: "Was working on the Ray D'Arcy show as much craic as it seemed?" @CoCoMairead - #AskMeAnything - #DermotAndDave @DermotTodayFM @DaveTodayFM pic.twitter.com/M3TvCYcFR7 — Today FM (@TodayFM) September 20, 2019 Check out Mairead's #AskMeAnything in full by pressing the play button on screen.

Isn't It About Time All Dating Apps Banned Filtered Photos?

Isn't It About Time All Dating Apps Banned Filtered Photos?

What lies beneath... In search for 'authenticity' dating website POF (Plenty of Fish) have decided to ban face-filtered photos from their platform. The Canadian service will complete an audit of all 70 million images on their site in hope of helping people make better matches. 52% of their users have asked for more transparency saying that face-filters should be banned, whereas 30% admit to avoiding profiles that are too heavily filtered. To get some insight into this common art of deception, Dermot and Dave chat to one of Today FM's incredibly handsome tech guys (they're all hot), Paul Bonass, who loves a good filter. Paul tells us why he feels the need to make himself more prettyful via his favourite filter app Facetune and explains how it all works. He even worked some magic on the two hosts: Dating Apps are starting to ban filtered photos Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Chatting about this now with #DermotAndDave https://t.co/c2ncXafNzf @DermotTodayFM @DaveTodayFM pic.twitter.com/GjcKKYjYKu — Today FM (@TodayFM) September 20, 2019 It's actually scary! So what do you think? That a little touch-up never hurt anyone, or it's only fair that people tell the truth? Check out the chat in full by pressing the play button on screen.

Noni Sets Sail For Japan

Noni Sets Sail For Japan

With lots of new chawklit treats See as her workplace is right in the heart of Munster rugby, Noni Considine is a huge fan of the ruggers. The Limerick lass shocked Dermot and Dave today by phoning into the show live from the middle of the ocean as she set sail for Tokyo, to cheer Schmidt and the boys on over the coming weeks. She may have said sayonara to Thomond Park, but that doesn't mean there'll be no chawklit-selling in Asia. Far from it. Noni has created new snacks that the Japanese will wolf down. They'll be delighted to see her! Check out the fun in  full by pressing the play button on screen.
