S32E21: Aimee Semple McPherson | The Disappearing Evangelist
In 1920s Los Angeles, one of the biggest names in American evangelism was, surprisingly for the time, a woman. Aimee Semple McPherson founded America's first megachurch, preaching to some 17,000 people at three services, seven days a week. She founded a radio station that shared those services to millions of households around the country. 10% of the population of Los Angeles held a membership at her Angelus Temple. And on May 18, 1926, Aimee Semple McPherson vanished. Want early, ad-free episodes, regular Dumpster Dives, bonus divorces, limited series, Zoom hangouts, and more? S32E20: Sid and Nancy | How Does It End?
Left to their own devices, and with the Sex Pistols basically over, Sid and Nancy found their way to New York City. From room 100 of the Chelsea Hotel, they spent 1978 in a drug-fueled haze, with Nancy booking some gigs for Sid to keep them supplied with money to support their habits. On October 12, 1978, Sid awoke from a Tuinal-induced sleep and found Nancy dead on the bathroom floor, with a stab wound in her abdomen. He was arrested and charged with her murder, but didn't live long enough to stand trial. Sid Vicious died of a heroin overdose on February 2, 1979, though the specifics of his final dose remain a subject of speculation. S32E18: Dumpster Dive | Corey Feldman, Hugh Jackman, Sutton Foster, Boy George, Chappell Roan, Billy Joel, P!NK, Tom Brady, Yael Braun, Shannen Doherty, and Cindy Crawford
Use code trashy at the link below to get an exclusive 60% off an annual Incogni plan: incogni.com/trashy Today we're bringing you one of our occasional Dumpster Dives, where we catch up on the latest news from the Trashy Divorces Cinematic Universe. In the Dumpster today: Corey Feldman's long running divorce is over, but he's found something else to be mad about: the time he was almost cast in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Leo DiCaprio earned an Oscar nomination instead. Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are reportedly planning to get married, but Hugh's children aren't entirely on board. Also, no prenup? Come on, celebrities. Do you even listen to our show? 80s pop master Boy George has some advice for notoriously press-averse Chappell Roan. Another 80s pop master, Billy Joel, was honored at Carnegie Hall, accompanied to the show by his friend P!NK. Is Tom Brady dating Scooter Braun's ex, Yael? Maybe so, but Giselle still wins the divorce, Tom. Dearly departed Shannen Doherty is somehow still in court with her ex-husband, who wants the terms of their divorce agreement adjusted because, you know, she lost her fight with breast cancer two years ago. Finally, Cindy Crawford made the mistake of sharing her morning routine with social media. The results were... well, you can guess.
